Baltimore’s newest attraction, a casino being built near the M&T Bank Stadium, will employ approximately 1,700 people, most of them locals, promise the developers. More than 12,000 people have already applied online for jobs at the casino, which is expected to bring in a big haul its first fiscal year?some $450 million?of which more than $200 million will go to the state, according to ABC News affiliate WARM.
“We want to give our Baltimore City residents an edge when we’re creating these kinds of opportunities,” said the city’s mayor, Stephanie Rawlings-Blake. “I know that’s what the council president wants. I know that’s what I want. And we’re going to work to make sure we give that edge to our residents.”
The casino has promised to send recruiters into each of the city’s 14 districts in an attempt to hire locally.
“As Charm City’s casino, it’s imperative that we have proud Baltimore residents that represent our casino,” said General Manager Chad Barnhill, “We’re going to leave no stone unturned. We’re going to go out to these neighborhoods. We’re going to meet residents. We’re going to personally communicate with them about the opportunities at hand.”
