Kansas Speedway recently announced its NASCAR Cup Series race, set for September 9 through September 11, has been renamed to Hollywood Casino 400 Presented by Barstool Sportsbook. The name change is another aspect of the growing partnership between Kansas Speedway and the nearby Hollywood Casino, which is building a new Barstool Sportsbook.
Hollywood Casino General Manager Rick Skinner said he hopes the casino’s sportsbook will open a temporary facility in time for the September race, if not the start of the National Football League season.
He added that a physical space for the Barstool Sportsbook has already been created near the patio overlooking Kansas Speedway. “You could see retail open first, before online and mobile betting, because that’s sort of the easiest thing as far as licensing and getting proper approvals from regulators,” Skinner said.
In May, Kansas Governor Laura Kelly signed SB 84, legalizing sports betting effective June 1. However, online and brick-and-mortar sportsbooks still must meet Kansas Racing and Gaming Commission and Kansas Lottery rules and regulations, according to Skinner.
He added he expects Kansas Speedway’s close proximity to Missouri will attract Missouri residents, who can legally bet as long as they are located within Kansas state borders.
Announcing the September race’s new name, NASCAR Hall of Famer and broadcast analyst Rusty Wallace said, “What I’ve noticed is sports betting just gives fans a whole different level of something to do. If we can base it on anything that’s been going on this year, man, we are ready for a big, big race on September 11.”
