GGB PODCAST: Kate Spilde, Professor and Chair of the Sycuan Institute of Tribal Gaming, San Diego State University

In this episode we sit down with Kate Spilde (l.), chair of SDSU’s Sycuan Institute of Tribal Gaming and one of the preeminent academics in the gaming world.

As one of the premier educators in the gaming industry, Kate Spilde got her start with the National Gambling Impact Study Commission (NGISC) in the late 1990s where she presented research into tribal gaming. That commission was a turning point in the federal attitude toward the gaming industry and Spilde’s research demonstrated that gaming was a huge positive for Native Americans. She went on to found the Sycuan Institute at San Diego State University and has continued to conduct research into all facets of gaming—tribal and commercial. She spoke with GGB Publisher Roger Gros at G2E in Las Vegas in October.
