Kerala, India May Legalize Poker

The Indian state of Kerala may redefine poker as a skill-based game and thereby make it legal. The game is currently banned because the government prohibits games of chance.

The state of Kerala in India may legalize the game of poker, which is now banned because it’s considered a game of chance. Permitting poker could bring land-based and online poker rooms, which could boost the state’s tourism industry, according to the Business Standard.

The request to redefine poker and thereby legalize it came from the All India Gambling Federation and AIGF CEO Roland Landers, who pointed out that the states of Karnataka, Nagaland and Bengal consider poker a game of skill and have legalized it. AIGF representatives have met with Additional Chief Secretary of Home and Vigilance Nalini Netto, who said the government will consider the change.
