Kangwon Land, the only South Korean casino that lets locals gamble, has tabled plans to reopen its main gaming floor following a sudden increase in Covid-19 cases in the country.

Kangwon Land in South Korean has postponed a plan to reopen its main gaming floor following a sudden uptick in reported cases of Covid-19 in the country, with most of them in Seoul, about 100 miles away.

According to Inside Asian Gaming, South Korea saw 40 new cases over 24 hours on May 27, the biggest increase in more than 50 days. Case numbers began to rise after the government started easing Covid-19 restrictions.

Kangwon Land opened its VIP floor on May 8, and has been operating with a series of social distancing measures in place, including a minimum three-foot distance between players, sneeze guards at gaming tables and mandatory face masks.

As of last week, South Korea’s had reported 11,265 cases of the virus, and 269 deaths.
