South Korean locals casino Kangwon Land, located in Gangwon Province, will remain closed until October 5 at the earliest, having opened once and then closed again after a spike in local Covid-19 infections. The property expects to lose from KRW36.4 billion (US$30.7 million) to KRW53.9 billion (US$46.3 million) due to the second closure.

Kangwon Land originally closed on February 23, then reopened for VIP guests on May 8 and the general public on July 20. Compelled to close again on August 23 due to the second wave of Covid cases, it planned to resume business on September 21, but again pushed back the date as South Korea works to contain Covid-19 infections in the nation. In addition to an extended closedown, the government is calling for enhanced measures against the spread of Covid-19. The steps include limiting indoor social gatherings to below 50 people and outdoor to less than 100.

Located in a mountainous region some 90 miles from Seoul, Kangwon Land is the only South Korean casino where locals can gamble. As of September 20, South Korea had 22,975 confirmed cases of Covid-19.
