Harrah’s Cherokee Valley River Casino & Hotel in Cherokee County, North Carolina, recently named Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians tribal member Lumpy Lambert as general manager. The $110 million casino-hotel currently is under construction. Most recently Lambert served as assistant general manager of casino operations at Harrah’s Cherokee Casino since 2011.
Lambert began his gaming industry career as casino operations supervisor at Harrah’s Cherokee Casino in 1997. Subsequently he was casino manager, director of casino marketing and vice president of casino operations at Harrah’s Cherokee, where he was a leader in the property’s six-year, $650 million expansion project, completed in 2012. He also managed the introduction of table games to the property and the resort’s first World Service of Poker Circuit event in 2013, which broke longstanding records.
The new Harrah’s Cherokee Valley River Casino & Resort will create more than 900 new jobs and hundreds of construction jobs, and generate $39 million in wages for the surrounding economy.
Brooks Robinson, senior vice president and general manager at Harrah’s Cherokee, said, “Lumpy is widely respected by his peers and tribal leaders, and has proven his continuous commitment to ensuring the success of the gaming business on behalf of the Eastern Band.” Add Lambert, “This is a really exciting time for the residents of Cherokee County and equally exciting for members of the Eastern Band. I’m really grateful and looking forward to this opportunity. It’s an exciting project building a new casino, a new team and creating even more great jobs in Western North Carolina. I’m also eager to begin building relationships within Cherokee County and becoming part of the community.”
