Las Vegas Resolves To…

January is peak resolution time, so why not think of some good promises for Las Vegas to keep? As always, local expert Ira David Sternberg (l.) has some ideas.

Las Vegas Resolves To…

It’s the first month of the new year and that means it’s time to make those resolutions that we all know will be abandoned by the second month of the new year. After all, it’s human nature.

But did you know that organizations can also make resolutions? For Las Vegas, it’s the resorts and attractions that look forward to a new year with promises to do things differently.

Here are possible new year’s resolutions that might be kept beyond February:

  • Bellagio commits to planting fake trees in front of its fountains, which are easily removed for the annual F1. No muss, no fuss and no bad PR.
  • Tropicana resolves to stay open while waiting for the new baseball stadium to be built on its property, but exploits the excitement by paying off jackpots with peanuts and Cracker Jack.
  • The Strat, famous for the Big Shot and X-Scream, promises to add attractions to its ground-floor level to appeal to visitors who have acrophobia.
  • The Fontainebleau pledges never to close. But if they do, it won’t take another 15 years to reopen.
  • The Sphere will become a good neighbor by using a dimmer switch at night.
MORE LAS VEGAS RESOLVES TO…
  • Allegiant Stadium pledges to provide more parking spaces, even if they have to put them on the field.
  • The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority, along with Clark County, promise no more road work for Formula 1 on the Strip…unless there’s an immediate need for a drain cover.
  • Flamingo Las Vegas promises to stop promoting its association with Bugsy Siegel and instead focus on branding the plastic victory flamingos that are thrown on the ice when the Vegas Golden Knights win a game.
  • Westgate promises to enhance its Elvis statue by surrounding it with a miniature Graceland.

As mentioned in the beginning, resolutions tend to be abandoned. The good news, from the perspective of most resorts, is that they kept their top resolution from last year: paid parking.
