Linn County, Iowa Voters To Determine Gambling Reauthorization

In Iowa, the Linn County board of supervisors recently approved a resolution to place a gambling measure on the November 2, 2021 ballot. That means Linn County voters will decide whether or not to reauthorize gambling games in the county.

Under state statute, the measure must be voted on and approved twice, separated by eight years. Then gambling will be allowed in Linn County permanently. Linn County voters first approved a gambling referendum in 2013.

The November referendum will be a yes or no vote on whether county residents want to allow gambling facilities in Linn County. The referendum is not for a specific casino or proposed casino. A yes vote means gambling will be allowed in Linn County; it does not mean a casino will be developed in Linn County. For that to happen, an operator must submit an application for a gaming license to the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission.
