Lithuania Declares War on Unlicensed Ops

The Lithuanian Ministry of Finance has ordered a crackdown on unlicensed online gambling. The Gambling Control Authority announced last week that it has upped its scrutiny of illegal online operators and will take decisive action to shut them down.

Banks will cooperate

The government of Lithuania has promised severe repercussions for unlicensed online gaming operators that recruit Lithuanian consumers.

The republic’s Gambling Control Authority issued a statement last week saying it has increased its monitoring of unlicensed gaming providers and will scrutinize and limit customer transactions and payouts that involve illegal gaming sites, according to SBC News. In addition, the authority will enlist the aid of national banks and financial institutions to stop payment and credit transactions that involve those sites.

“These changes to regulation have been widely publicized and will be strictly legally enforced,” said Virginijus Dauksys, director of the authority. “Gaming operators need to be licensed to operate in the Republic of Lithuania.”
