Lithuania Moves Toward Banning Gaming Ads

Lithuania’s Finance Ministry has drafted legislation that would ban gaming ads and require gaming operators to track problem gambling among their customers, G3 Newswire reported March 7. This would be an amendment to the Gambling Law.

Vilija Petronienė, senior advisor at the Ministry’s Financial Markets Policy Department, added that when the legislation is finalized by the government it will be presented to the Lithuanian parliament for consideration this spring.

The ban on gambling marketing or dissemination of information about gambling firms, would take effect next year. It would cover television, websites, newspapers, magazines, and billboards. It is supported by about 50 members of parliament, mainly from the ruling party.

The only exception to the ban would be on the company’s own website, at the casino’s venue, or in publications aimed at gaming professionals.
