Macau Roosevelt Opens

Macau’s newest hotel is a five-star, “1950s Hollywood-inspired” property that deliberately leans away from the megaresort model. The 368-room Macau Roosevelt has been described as an “urban getaway retreat.”

A departure from “the big boys” in Macau

The Macau Roosevelt Hotel, a boutique property that includes an SJM-operated casino, opened to great fanfare last month. The GCP Hospitality-branded resort has been characterized as a “lifestyle” hotel by Marketing Director Marc Bichet.

“The fact that we are just next to the Macau Jockey Club – and have this infinite pool overlooking it – will definitely position the property as the preferred Macau urban retreat,” Bichet told the Macau Daily Times. He said architect and designer Gulla Jonsdottir “took a strong take on 1950s Hollywood and gave it this ‘retro-twist.’”

He said the hotel’s “sophisticated social spaces” will “set this property apart from the ‘big boys’ in Macau.”

The Macau Roosevelt houses a casino with 30 gaming tables and 90 slot machines. The gaming tables were formerly located at the Macau Jockey Club under the license of SJM before they were moved to the adjacent property. SJM will continue to provide the tables to the new hotel from its own allocation in keeping with the jurisdiction’s cap on gaming tables.

The new venue is considered a “relocation” of the Jockey Club casino, according to previous comments from the gaming bureau cited by GGRAsia. All the tables offer baccarat games.“This game is popular among clients,” said So.
