At Magic City Casino in Miami, jai alai will debut July 1 and a grand opening will be held July 4. Contests will be played Wednesdays through Sundays. The jai alai fronton currently is being constructed inside Stage 305, the casino’s 850-seat indoor concert hall.
Spokeswoman Sandra Rodriguez said, “Everything for the fronton is being fabricated in Spain and is on schedule for shipping with installation scheduled to take place the last two weeks of May. Interior changes and improvements within Stage 305 are underway.”
Last August, state regulators approved Magic City Casino’s request to switch out greyhound racing for jai alai. Currently the dog track is in its annual off season. Rodriguez said, “We will feature greyhound racing in the month of June and then beginning in July change our parimutuel component over to jai alai. There are no immediate plans for the space that holds the greyhound track.”
In February, Magic City Casino hosted the first concert in its expanded amphitheater, built on the track’s infield. Seating capacity doubled from 2,000 to 4,000.
