The market for VLTs in Manitoba, Canada is at or past the saturation point, according to an independent study commissioned by the Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs.
The study called the province one of the “most penetrated gaming markets in North America.”
Although the province doesn’t have as many VLTs as Quebec, it does have more per capita than any other province. Additionally, more money is spent per adult on gaming than elsewhere in the nation, which has created a $1.5 billion industry.
In the previous decade Manitoba was the only province to increase the number of machines, with most of them deployed by Manitoba First Nations.
Currently the province is doing a study of the implications of more gaming.
A spokesman for the government said last week in a statement: “The 2016 Manitoba Gaming Market Study indicates that the gaming market is oversupplied throughout the province, including in Winnipeg. Any change in capacity must therefore be supported by a solid market analysis and business plan.”
