Study Breaks Down New Jersey Online Gambling Data

A report released by New Jersey gambling regulators and conducted by Rutgers University offered detailed statistics on the state’s online gambling players. Among the findings was a single player that wagered more than $78 million on online poker. The study also found that only about 5 percent of the state’s players played online exclusively while more than 19 percent played both online and at Atlantic City’s brick-and mortar casinos.

New Jersey Legislator Seeks to Clarify Casino Referendum

A New Jersey lawmaker was scheduled to introduce a resolution in Trenton to help clarify how any new tax revenue generated by casino construction in the state will be used. Voters are being asked to approve the building of two new casinos in the northern part of the state—the first allowed outside of Atlantic City—in November. The ballot question, however, contains few details such as where the casinos will be built and the tax rate they will be charged, though Assemblyman Ralph Caputo (l.) did speak of possible differing rates depending on the new casino’s location.

Rent Lowered For Gulfport Casino Developers

Lumbee Tribe Pursues Federal Recognition

The U.S. Senate Committee on Indian Affairs recently heard testimony from Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina Chairman Harvey Godwin regarding S-2285, the Lumbee Recognition Act. If the measure passes the 55,000-member tribe would qualify for certain services and benefits and have land taken into trust by the Interior Department for various purposes, including gaming.

California to Pay Pauma Tribe $36.3 million

The state of California will pay the price for overreaching by its former governor, Arnold Schwarzenegger (l.), who during his two terms in office never met a scheme for squeezing money out of a gaming tribe that he didn’t like. The Pauma Band of Luiseño Mission Indians will collect $36.3 million to make up for a slot machine fee that the state fraudulently collected for several years.

St. Croix Tribe Building Casino Express

The new St. Croix Express Casino Complex in Hertel, Wisconsin is under construction with a soft opening scheduled for December. Operated by the 1,054-member St. Croix Chippewa tribe, the complex will offer a 250-slot casino, 50-seat restaurant, players club, RV park and 850-seat outdoor amphitheater.

Judge Rules for California Casino

A challenge to an off-reservation casino that beat the odds, beat the voters of California and beat a rival gaming tribe, has been beaten down by the decision of U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia Chief Judge Beryl Howell in a 170-page decision. The opponents of the casino, she wrote, had many things on their side. The law wasn’t one of them.

City Agrees to Sell Land California Gaming Tribe

The city of Ridgecrest, California has agreed to sell 24.6 acres to the Timbisha Shoshone Tribe, which is based 122 miles away, in Death Valley. The tribe would like to use the land for an off-reservation casino.

Chickasaws Open WinStar Convention Center

The Chickasaw Nation recently held a ribbon-cutting for the new WinStar World Convention Center at its WinStar World Casino and Resort in Thackerville, Oklahoma. Idaho Lottery Requests Keno Info

Idaho Lottery officials have asked potential bidders on the lucrative 10-year contract to provide information on Keno, simulated racing, fantasy sports and other games prohibited in the state. Lawmakers have expressed concern, but Lottery Director Jeff Anderson said the lottery does not plan to offer any games that currently are not allowed.

Francis SiJohn, a 10-year employee and former guest services coordinator at the Coeur d'Alene Casino Resort Hotel in Worley, Idaho, has been named chief executive officer.
