McCarran Airport Traffic to Top 2014

McCarran International Airport in Las Vegas is poised to surpass its 2014 passenger total after 4.1 million people arrived via the airport in October, making it the second month to surpass the four million mark this year. Through the first 10 months of the year, McCarran has handled 38 million arrivals.

McCarran International Airport in Las Vegas had 4.1 million passengers during October, helping to assure 2015’s passenger traffic will exceed 2014’s total.

The Clark County Aviation Department reported passenger traffic was up by 6.4 percent from October 2014, bringing total passengers through the first 10 months of the year to about 38 million.

Passenger traffic at McCarran so far is up by 5.1 percent for the year when compared to 2014, the aviation department reported.

During October, domestic traffic increased by 7.1 percent to 3.7 million, but international traffic declined 1.4 percent to 317,519.

Reductions in international travel from China, which is discouraging gambling excursions by its citizens, and Canada, which is seeing a lull in its oil boom, largely contributed to the decrease in international traffic in October, airport officials said.

The drop in international traffic should be a temporary one, McCarran officials said, with Southwest Airlines and Spirit Airlines recently expanding their service to Las Vegas and more international routes being added by the end of the year.

For the fourth quarter, international carriers will add 1.2 percent more passenger capacity with newer, larger aircraft and more routes from Latin America, airport officials said.
