Melco Cyprus has announced that its Cyprus Casinos (C2) satellite gaming venues will reopen at 30 percent capacity Monday, May 17, and increase to 50 percent on June 1.
Melco Cyprus runs four casinos in the Greek section of the Mediterranean island, in Limassol, Nicosia, Ayia Napa and Paphos; all suspended operations in December for health reasons in keeping with a “government directive,” the company stated. Melco continues to develop an integrated casino resort, City of Dreams Mediterranean, in Limassol. It’s scheduled to open in the summer of 2022.
Meanwhile, according to GGRAsia, patrons will have to present what is called a “safe pass” in order to enter the C2 gaming halls.
The casinos are controlled by ICR Cyprus Holdings Ltd, a joint venture of Melco Resorts and Entertainment and Cyprus Phassouri. The partners have a 30-year exclusive gaming license in the jurisdiction.
Cyprus Minister of Health Constantinos Ioannou said in a statement that the government is looking to a “gradual restart of the economy.”
“The de-escalation of measures will be gradual depending on the epidemiological picture as it develops,” he said. “The return to more normal conditions must be achieved safely and carefully.”
