MGM Tests Interactive Betting Tables

MGM Resorts is testing four-player tables with touch-screen wagering tables at its sports book, with internet-connected stations supplied by Suzo-Happ.

MGM Resorts International is testing four-person tables in its race and sports books that will eventually offer in-play wagering and casino games, but which also function as giant smart phones.

The interactive tables, supplied by Suzo-Happ, have touch-screens that currently allow internet connectivity for tweeting, reviewing fantasy sports picks, or making dining or show reservations at MGM properties. The tabletop’s touch-screen surface allows up to four guests to log in to their own windows to tweet, play free games from the casino or play on the social casino application myVegas.

MGM has installed 20 of the tables, 20 each at MGM Grand and the Mirage in Las Vegas. According to a report in the Las Vegas Sun, the casino plans to introduce real gambling options on the tables, including casino games, sports betting and in-play wagering, some time next year. Players would establish accounts and fund them with cash, after which they would be able to log into the interactive tables.

Thomas Mikulich, MGM’s senior vice president for business development, told the Sun the operator is using the tables to reach out to millennials and Generation Xers with familiar technology.

“As we thought about that and started trying to grab them by the hair and yank them into the casino, we thought we’d go where they’re at,” Mikulich said. “And where they’re at is mobile phones and sports books, lounges, nightclubs. We thought we’d put some of these devices in those areas to try and engage with them and see what they actually like to do.”
