Island Resort and Casino in Harris, Michigan has announced that its $33 million expansion project has moved to Phase 2 of construction, which means the expanded building is completely enclosed and heated.
The speed of the work is due to using pre-cast concrete rather than steel, said General Manager Tony Mancilla. “They put it up from start to finish in three months. So, we’re enclosed, it’s warm, there’s heat in here, the guys can work all winter,” he said.
Scheduled for completion in December, the expansion includes an additional 138 hotel rooms, a 200-person full-service restaurant and a water park.
The first phase—constructing the outside of the building—was completed in mid-December. Project Manager Peter Dupuis said, “Phase two is going to take roughly six months. It’s all the rough-ins, including mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire suppression and metal studs. Hopefully by July, the crew will move to the third and final phase, including painting, carpeting, wood trim, doors, hardware, caseware, vanities, stuff like that.” said Dupuis.
Mancilla commented, “I’m excited about the rooms. The rooms are going to be beautiful. They’re going to be top notch. The water park, of course, gives us another group of people to market to.”
