Michigan Tribe Elects Davis Chief

The tribal council of the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe has elected Timothy Davis as its new chief. The tribe operates the Soaring Eagle Casino & Resort and Soaring Eagle Waterpark in Mount Pleasant, Michigan and the Eagles Landing Casino near Standish.

The newly elected tribal council of the Isabella County, Michigan-based Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe recently chose Timothy Davis as its new chief in a 7-5 vote. Davis, who defeated two other candidates, will serve through 2021.

“Tribal council will do everything in our power to ensure that we collectively work towards the best interest of our tribe and for our members,” Davis said of the organization, operators of the Soaring Eagle Casino & Resort and Soaring Eagle Waterpark in Mount Pleasant and the Eagles Landing Casino near Standish.

Other new council members are Joe Kequom, sub-chief; Maia Spotted Tail, treasurer; Jennifer Wassegijig, secretary; Martha Wemigwans, sergeant-at-arms; Alice Jo Ricketts, tribal chaplain. Ronald Ekdahl, Ron Nelson, Chip Neyome, Carmen Otto, Theresa Peters-Jackson and Gayle Ruhl comprise the rest of the council.
