Monthly PA Sports Betting Handle Nearly $60 Million

Pennsylvania regulators report that the state’s newly minted sportsbooks handled nearly $60 million in wagers in July, a record set mainly through online bets.

The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board reported that a record $59.3 million in sports bets were handled in July, with two-thirds of those bets—totaling $38.9 million—placed online through websites or the state’s new mobile app.

It was the second month online wagers were accepted in the state, and bettors clearly indicated that online betting is preferable to retail sportsbooks.

SugarHouse Sportsbook PA is the leader in online wagering so far, with a combined $26.4 million in combined retail and online sports wagering ($22 million of that was online). The SugarHouse online book is linked to Philadelphia’s SugarHouse Casino. SugarHouse owner Rush Street Gaming also owns Pittsburgh’s Rivers Casino, which runs the BetRivers-branded online book.

Rush Street has announced plans to rebrand SugarHouse as Rivers Casino Philadelphia.
