Frontier Airlines has announced it will offer nonstop service to from Windsor Locks, Connecticut to San Juan, Puerto Rico, where the Mashantucket Pequot Tribe operates the new Foxwoods el San Juan Casino.
The flights will begin in February.
JetBlue already offers a low-cost flight between Windsor Locks and San Juan. This boosts efforts by the tribe to link their Connecticut casino to Puerto Rico by encouraging its established patrons to experience its new casino.
Tribal Chairman Rodney Butler told CDC Gaming Reports he wasn’t aware the new air service was coming. “But I think it’s great for the state in general,” He added, “Pre-Covid, there were multiple non-stop flights to Puerto Rico simply based on it being a popular tourist destination for New Englanders and the large Puerto Rican population throughout the region, so I would just chalk this up to re-opening. Direct flights from New Haven would be nice too.”
The San Juan casino opened for business November 17.
