President Barack Obama has appointed MGM Resorts Chairman and CEO James Murren to the National Infrastructure Advisory Council, which provides the president with advice on critical infrastructure sections and their IT systems.

The CEO of MGM Resorts is joining the Obama administration to serve on the National Infrastructure Advisory Council.

The White House announced the appointment of James J. Murren to the advisory council in a news release issued this afternoon.

Murren has been chairman and chief executive officer of MGM Resorts International since 2008. He has been a member of the board of directors since joining MGM Resorts International in 1998 and president since 1999. Murren is currently vice chair of the American Gaming Association and is a member of the board of trustees of Brookings Institution.

The National Infrastructure Advisory Council is tasked with providing the president with advice on the “security of the critical infrastructure sectors and their information systems.” The council is composed of a maximum of 30 members, appointed by the president, from private industry, academia and state and local government.
