N.Y. Clears Path for Casino Expansion

The state’s regulators have finalized rules for table games, enabling four new casinos to push ahead toward opening. The first is set to debut in a couple of weeks in the form of a major expansion at the Tioga Downs racetrack (l.).

The first of four new casinos planned for upstate New York could be open before the end of November following final regulatory approval of statewide rules governing table games.

The new rules cover the operational details for running poker, blackjack, roulette and craps games.

Four casinos have been authorized in different parts of the state.

Tioga Downs, located west of Binghamton in what is known as the Southern Tier region, was the last of the four casinos to receive a state license, but it will be the first to open. The racetrack and racino is expanding into a full casino that could debut as early as mid-month.

“Physically the place is done,” said owner Jeff Gural. “The slots are going in, the table games are there.”

The other three venues are Montreign Resort Casino in Sullivan County in the Catskills; Rivers Casino & Resort at Mohawk Harbor in Schenectady; and del Lago Resort & Casino in Seneca County in the Finger Lakes region.
