Nebraska Grants WarHorse Provisional Licenses

The Nebraska Racing and Gaming Commission recently granted provisional gaming licenses for WarHorse Gaming LLC’s proposed racinos in Omaha and Lincoln.

The 90-day authorizations will allow the federally recognized Winnebago Tribe of Nebraska to secure financing, bring in equipment and begin construction at the existing Horsemen’s Park in Omaha and Lincoln Race Course. WarHorse also has plans to open a racino at Atokad Park in South Sioux City.

Lance Morgan, chief executive officer at the Winnebago Tribe of Nebraska’s Ho-Chunk Inc. said, “Good news, we got the provisional licenses for the Omaha and Lincoln casinos. Now we can take the next steps to get open.” He said WarHorse will partner with the Nebraska Horsemen’s Benevolent and Protective Association to develop the Omaha and Lincoln racinos. The partners expect to open temporary casinos at both venues as construction proceeds on the permanent facilities.

Horsemen’s Benevolent and Protective Association Executive Vice President for Nebraska Lynne McNally said the $220 million WarHorse Casino at Lincoln Race Course facility could open by June 2024. It will feature a gaming floor with 1,200 slots, 196-room hotel, several restaurants, spa and events space. McNally added WarHorse the Omaha venue is expected to offer similar amenities.
