Netherlands Gets 28 Online Gaming Applications

The Netherlands gambling regulator Kansspelautoriteit (KSA) has so far received 28 applications from operators seeking to enter the new regulated online gaming market that will open officially October 1, 2021.

The KSA opened the licensing window April 1 as mandated by the “Remote Gambling Act.” According to KSA Chairman Rene Jansen, applicants will be thoroughly vetted.

He stated, “The intention of the law is to channel players from illegal providers to legally reliable providers. With this number of applications, I am confident that there will soon be a sufficiently attractive and varied offer to achieve this objective.”

Applicants will need to demonstrate the ability to maintain customer databases and connect their websites to the national self-exclusion database. They must also provide a “quality assurance document.”
