Nevada Expands Betting Markets

The state Gaming Commission has approved new rules to allow parimutuel wagering on non-traditional events such as the World Series of Poker (l.). What it means is now just about any proposition is in play, from professional sports drafts and awards to eSports tournaments.

The Nevada Gaming Commission has approved wagering on non-traditional events such as eSports, professional sports drafts and the World Series of Poker.

The unanimous OK is in line with a state legislative mandate to bring the rules for pari-mutuel betting in line with those of regular sports book bets.

Previously, gamblers could place bets in non-pari-mutuel formats on “other events,” as these are described in state rules and whose past examples have included the NBA draft, the NBA Most Valuable Player award and college football’s Heisman Trophy.

The new rule was scheduled to take effect July 1.
