Nevada Fantasy Gaming License Sought

American Gaming Association Hall-of-Famer and entrepreneur Vic Salerno (l.) has applied to the Nevada Gaming Commission for an off-track, parimutuel Sports System Operator's license, in an effort to become the first licensed fantasy sports betting operation in Nevada. The license would enable Salerno’s company, US Fantasy, to offer a variety of fantasy sports contests.

American Gaming Association Hall-of-Famer and entrepreneur Vic Salerno has applied to the Nevada Gaming Commission for an off-track, parimutuel Sports System Operator’s license.

If approved, the license would enable Salerno’s new company, US Fantasy, to be the first to offer fans a full variety of fantasy sports contests through Nevada casinos.

“Our unique contests figure to dramatically grow the popularity of fantasy sports in Nevada,” Salerno said. “We strongly anticipate increased customer traffic and revenue for the host casino properties and a taxable benefit for the state.”

Contest entries would be placed through terminals at casinos and other locations, via mobile devices, and online, while utilizing geo-location, age verification, money laundering controls, and segregated player cash accounts to protect players.

Where possible, the wagering system also would accept wagers from outside of Nevada from players in states allowing fantasy sports wagering, and Salerno says it would operate similarly to online poker wagering done with bettors in Delaware.

Salerno and his companies have operated more than 100 licensed sports book operations and sports wagering systems in Nevada through his American Wagering and its subsidiaries.

If approved by Nevada gaming regulators, US Fantasy would offer contests as skill-based games utilizing pari-mutuel systems. Unlike daily fantasy sports operators Fan Duel, Draft Kings, and Yahoo, the format would be designed to comply with Nevada gaming regulations and oversight.

Salerno is the former CEO of American Wagering, which supplied the sports wagering systems for Wynn Resorts, Caesars Entertainment, MGM Resorts and William Hill-U.S., and was president of Leroy’s, which is a network of Nevada race and sports books.
