New Jersey Proposes Keno

The New Jersey Lottery has proposed introducing quick draw keno games, which would open up gambling in thousands of different locations across the state. An Atlantic City legislator is concerned.

Legislation has been introduced in the New Jersey Assembly to block the state lottery from offering a keno-style game.

Assemblyman Vince Mazzeo, who represents Atlantic County, said the Quick Draw lottery game steps on Atlantic City’s casino games and violates the state’s gambling restrictions.

“The state lottery is grossly overstepping their authority by essentially expanding casino-style gambling to bars and restaurants outside of Atlantic City,” Mazzeo said in a press statement. “Having keno drawings every 5 minutes is a clear end around the spirit of the 1970 State Lottery constitutional amendment.”

Quick Draw was approved by the Lottery Commission as a game to be played primarily in bars, restaurants, bowling alleys and other locations where players spend time dining or socializing according to the Press of Atlantic City. Mazzeo’s bill would limit lottery drawings to twice a day for each game.
