New Jersey to Designate Atlantic City Airport a Growth Zone

The New Jersey Assembly has passed a bill designating the area around Atlantic City International Airport as a Garden State Growth Zone. The designation allows for tax breaks in a new aviation centered industrial park. The bill now heads to the governor’s desk.

The area surrounding the Atlantic City Airport would become a Garden State Growth Zone under a bill passed by the state Assembly.

The bill now heads to the state Governor’s desk for final approval.

The bill creates tax incentives for businesses within the “aviation district,” or one mile surrounding the airport. The move is seen as a way to help Atlantic County create an aviation industry and diversifying its economy away from the Atlantic City casino market.

“This package is going to help put us on the map,” said Lauren Moore, executive director of the Atlantic County Economic Alliance. “We’re working with several candidates and this will allow us to put a very compelling incentive offer on the table.”

The county officially broke ground on an aviation business park. The first building was set to be open by the end of 2018, but Moore said the construction is ahead of schedule and could be done by the end of September, according to the Press of Atlantic City.
