New Nevada Gaming Chairwoman Keynote Speaker at UNLV Gaming & Hospitality Education Series

The UNLV Gaming & Hospitality Education Series last week announced that Sandra Douglass Morgan, recently appointed as chairwoman of the Nevada Gaming Control Board, will serve as a keynote speaker for the first Episode of the 2019 series, “The Road to 2020.”

Morgan was appointed to this role by Governor Steve Sisolak for a four-year term from January 28, 2019 to January 28, 2023.

Morgan was previously appointed to the Nevada Gaming Commission by Governor Brian Sandoval in April 2018. While serving as a commissioner, she was also the director of external affairs for AT&T Services, Inc. and was responsible for managing AT&T’s government and community affairs in Nevada. Morgan previously served as the city attorney for the city of North Las Vegas, and was the first African-American city attorney in the state of Nevada. Prior to her public service with the city, she served as litigation attorney for one of the world’s largest gaming companies. For the Nevada Gaming Control Board, she is the second woman chair and the first African American.

The “Road to 2020” will help attendees prepare for the big events scheduled to happen. The year 2020 will bring major changes to Las Vegas and to the gaming industry as a whole. In Las Vegas, a variety of new casinos and sports and entertainment attractions will open, turning the Strip on its head. In gaming, the technology changes will only accelerate during the next year and being moving at the speed of light as we enter the new decade. From new ways to play casino games to shifting demographics to a reconfigured casino floor, fueled by innovative technology that will change the casino experience, gambling in 2020 and beyond will change fundamentally. The Road to 2020, a full-day Episode, will prepare operators, suppliers, regulators and educators for what lies ahead.

Topics include a review of some of the major Las Vegas projects scheduled to be completed in 2020, along with a recap of the demographic shift expected to accompany those projects. The afternoon session will focus on a “new” casino floor, how to use themed events to attract new customers, and the increasingly important role women play in gaming.
