New York Law to Aid to Upstate Track

The state of New York is poised to lend a helping hand to Vernon Downs Casino Hotel. Legislation awaits Governor Andrew Cuomo’s signature to become law.

The bill lets Vernon Downs use a percentage of the revenue set aside for capital projects for operations, along with revenue kept by the New York State Gaming Commission, according to the Rome Sentinel.

“I am pleased that this bill has passed the Senate and that we can provide additional assistance and support to Vernon Downs, which is critically important to the Mohawk Valley,” said co-sponsor State Senator Joseph Griffo. “This legislation will help maintain jobs at the facility, further protect the harness racing and breeding industry in Central New York and preserve the amount of education aid that the facility contributes.”

Vernon Downs success is critical to the region, said Assemblywoman Marianne Buttenschon, who sponsored the law in the Assembly.

“This legislation is victory for our local economy and for the hundreds of employees at this facility,” she said.
