Harrah’s Cherokee Valley River Casino in Cherokee County, North Carolina, will hold a job fair this week to fill hundreds of positions at the property, scheduled to open in September. General Manager Lumpy Lambert said, “We’re going to bring about 800 jobs to this region, that’s a win-win for the tribe and county. We will bring a to million payroll to the area and that’s exciting.” Lambert said staffing the 60,000 square foot, 1,000-slot casino floor will require hundreds of employees. The 300-room hotel will open in late fall.
Owned by the Eastern Band of the Cherokee Indians, who also own Harrah’s Cherokee Casino in Cherokee, revenue from the new casino will benefit the tribe and Cherokee County. Cherokee County Economic Development Director Josh Carpenter said, “The North Carolina Department of Transportation is building a $10 million road project, which will add more acreage in front of the casino. There’s a huge push from state and local entities that will help. Even the community college system has been preparing workforce to take those jobs.”
Carpenter added, “You’re looking at an additional 10,000 to 15,000 cars a day, 4 million visitors a year. It will be huge opportunity for development here,” Carpenter said.
