A new report by the American Gaming Association reveals that Ohio gaming generates $3.6 billion in economic impact and supports almost 20,000 jobs. AGA’s Casinos & Communities report is the first of its kind.
The report is part of the AGA’s Get to Know Gaming Campaign, which is touring the 40 U.S. states that have gaming. The figures were released last week at Miami Valley Gaming, a racino in Lebanon. Various VIPs, such as Rep. Steve Chabot attended to highlight the partnership between gaming and that region of the state.
Geoff Freeman, president and chief executive officer of AGA, commented, “Throughout the state, the gaming industry is an engine of innovation for communities and its partners. We are engaging and supporting area small businesses, creating new partnerships with local non-profit organizations and providing good jobs that pave a path to the middle class for workers of all backgrounds.”
Gaming, said Freeman, creates $804 million in wages and over $500 million in tax revenues.
Chabot added, “What we are seeing with the gaming industry in Ohio is a microcosm of how our economy looks when it is working as it’s designed to function. Private investment creates employment opportunities for local workers, including those with disabilities, which leads to economic growth, and higher tax revenues. Higher revenues, in turn, help to support more robust local services. Simply put, everyone benefits.”
The day also included roundtable discussions involving chamber of commerce officials, casino managers, elected officials and others.
