Ohio Senate Looks at Gaming Impact

The Ohio Senate announced it has formed a committee to review gaming regulation, the industry’s impact in the state and various aspects of gambling including sports betting, online lottery systems and electronic bingo machines. Senate President Matt Huffman said Senate Majority Leader Kirk Shuring will lead the committee.

Huffman said, “The growing gaming industry is something Ohio must be prepared to address. We will ask the tough questions. The purpose is to try to address all of these things on an equal basis. They are not the same issue, they have very different issues. But often these issues intersect with people who are already conducting gambling efforts, local charity bingo, casinos, the state lottery and how that all intersects with each other. I just think it’s a better idea to get these things addressed.”

State Senator Nathan Manning will be vice-chair of the committee. Other members include state senators Louis W. Blessing III, George F. Lang, Cecil Thomas, Hearcel F. Craig and Niraj Antani. The committee is expected to begin its work in May.
