Ojibwe Plan $10 Million Resort Rehab

The Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe Indians announced it will invest $10 million to upgrade Eddy's Lake Mille Lacs Resort in Onamia, Minnesota. The band owns the Grand Casino Mille Lacs and Grand Casino Hinckley, as well as the Crowne Plaza Riverfront Hotel and the DoubleTree Hilton in St. Paul.

The Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe recently announced a million upgrade to Eddy’s Lake Mille Lacs Resort in Onamia, Minnesota, which it purchased in 2002. Joe Nayquonabe Jr., commissioner of corporate affairs for the band, said plans include razing the existing structures and redeveloping Eddy’s into a world-class destination resort with guest rooms, amenities, meeting spaces and a restaurant. Construction will start this spring and be completed by November.

Nayquonabe noted, “By improving the customer experience and boosting tourism, this project will be a win-win for the Mille Lacs Band and the tourism industry in East Central Minnesota. The economy of the entire region revolves around Lake Mille Lacs, and Eddy’s resort is no different. It is our goal to ensure the quality of the lake for generations to come. The fact that we are making a significant investment in the renovation of our lake resort indicates how strongly we believe in the future of the lake.”
