Okada Manila Opening December 21

Okada Manila, Japanese businessman Kazuo Okada’s self-named casino resort in the Philippines, will begin a preview period Wednesday, December 21. The $2.4 billion resort’s grand opening is set for early 2017.

Not a “soft opening”

The $2.4 billion Okada Manila is scheduled to start a “preview period” starting Wednesday, December 21, according to a news release issued by Tiger Resort, Leisure and Entertainment Inc., a subsidiary of Universal Entertainment Inc. An official grand opening for the property will take place in early 2017, according to GGRAsia.

“Rather than a ‘soft opening,’ Okada Manila is delighted to offer a preview period between December 21 and the grand opening later in the first quarter of 2017,” Shariza Relova, director of public relations for Okada Manila, told the news outlet.

Opening day will include a free Christmas concert and a fireworks display “beautifully enhanced with a laser light show,” the release said.

“The media and public can expect a much larger event to mark the official launch of the property early next year,” Relova said.

Phase I of the project covers half of the total 44-hectare (109-acre) parcel.

Okada Manila is a project of Japanese pachinko tycoon Kazuo Okada. Originally called Manila Bay Resorts, the property should was originally scheduled for completion at the end of March 2015. That date was pushed back to December 31, 2016.
