Online Gambling Rising in UK

Figures released by the UK Gambling Commission show online gambling has grown in the country by about 50 percent since 2008. Gambling in other sectors remained fairly steady for the six years studied.

The UK Gambling Commission revealed statistics that show just how much online gambling has been growing in the last six years.

In a report covering 2008 to 2014, the commission found a relatively steady level of gambling participation across the board, but some sectors of the gambling market rose. And online gambling rose a lot, with participation up 50 percent from 9.7 percent of all gambling in 2008 to 15.4 percent in 2014.

The National Lottery, however, remains the most popular form of gambling in the UK, but the report noted a decrease in participation rates during the last six years from 44 percent to 37.4 percent.

The report did see an increase in other lotteries, with participation up from 11.1 percent in 2009 to 12.9 percent in 2014.
