The Ontario Lottery has partnered with Karma Gaming to launch FrontRow, which is a mobile fantasy sports product in which games are purchased and redeemed at retail locations, so no online gambling laws apply.
“The fantasy sports industry is exploding around the world right now and lotteries don’t want to find themselves in the same position they did when online poker took off,” said Ontario Lottery New Business Director Adam Caughill. “We need a seat at the table fast.”
Customers can buy FrontRow tickets from their local lottery retailer by scanning the code on the ticket using their FrontRow app and choosing among a variety of sports and games.
Once customers pick their contests, they select their favorite teams, and the app automatically assigns rosters based on their choices.
When the game starts, customers can follow the progress on their mobile device in real time. When customers win, they take their ticket back into retail to redeem their winnings.
“FrontRow is designed for lotteries to capitalize on a huge gap in fantasy sports,” said Karma Gaming CIO Jay Aird.
“The game is designed for the casual sports fan, not the sharks. Because rosters are assigned automatically, all customers have the same odds of winning.”
