Ontario Town Likely to Approve Shoreline Casino

The proposed Shoreline Casino in Belleville, Ontario, likely will become a reality after city officials unanimously approved drafting enabling language allowing a casino to be built and operated on Bell Boulevard. The 28,000-square-foot casino is expected to employ 300 and might open in March 2017, and a portion of gaming proceeds will be returned to the local community.

Ontario soon will have a new casino called the Shorelines in Belleville, Ontario, after the Belleville City Council unanimously supported preparing its enabling language.

City officials intend to enact a bylaw that would allow them to enter into an agreement with the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation and on January 25 voted to proceed with preparing a supporting measure.

With local support making passage a near-inevitability, the Great Canadian Gaming Corporation is planning to build a 48,000-square-foot gaming facility on Bell Boulevard.

The casino would employ about 300 and might open by March 2017. It also would provide a significant revenue boost for local units. The Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation requires 5.25 percent of the first $65 million in revenues generated by electronic games of chance and 4 percent of revenues from table games be returned to the communities in which casinos are located.
