The Oregon Lottery’s “Scoreboard” sports betting app has missed launching in time for the NFL season, and it might be several weeks longer before it completes its testing phase, according to Lottery spokesman Matt Shelby. It might be as long as early October.
Some members of the public saw the app at the state fair in August, but the lottery prefers to perfect it before general release.
In admitting that the sportsbook wouldn’t be released last week, Shelby said, “We have an app, and we have the platform. We’re testing for security and the usability of the app, but more important, we’re testing on the financial side of things. … We’re not just working with SBTech (for sports betting), there are a number of vendors on the financial side, and we have to make sure all of those systems are integrated. We’re just kind of making sure that all of the functionality is there.”
He added, “How testing goes will drive our launch date. It’s a few weeks later than we’d hoped, but we’ve got one chance to get it right. It’s really a business-driven decision.”
The Indian casino Chinook Winds on the Pacific Coast launched the state’s first sports betting on August 27.
Once the app is released, patrons will be able to download it via the App Store and Google Play.
Players will be limited to wagering on professional sports and not collegiate contests.
