The Otoe-Missouria Tribal Council recently broke ground on its fifth casino, 7 Clans Perry Casino in Perry, Oklahoma. Scheduled to open in spring 2016, the casino will be built on a parcel of tribal-owned trust property in a residential neighborhood, on the site of abandoned house. Parking lots will be put in on city-owned land next to the property. The tribe will pay a yearly fee to Perry in exchange for use of the land.
Tribal Chairman John Shotton said, “We are restricted by federal law to building gaming facilities on land held in trust status. Since this is the only trust land we have in Perry, it is the only location where we can build.” He added, “The tribe entered into a yearly payment agreement in lieu of taxes for utility service. We also agreed to pay taxes on any economic activity that occurs on non-trust parcels.”
The 4,500 square foot facility will offer more than 100 slot machines, blackjack and poker tables, plus a drive-through smoke shop, cafe and bar.
“We feel really good about this cooperative relationship with the city of Perry. We are impressed with what you are doing near I-35 and we hope that this development encourages other businesses to consider developing in Perry, too,” Shotton said.
The tribe currently owns four casinos in Newkirk, Red Rock and Chilocco.
