Palms Workers Can Stay, Says Station

With Station Casinos poised to take over ownership of the Palms Casino in Las Vegas, hundreds of workers on June 21 submitted a petition saying they want to keep their jobs.

The workers say they are concerned for their job security, particularly those working for Sodexo, which operates the casino’s coffee shop, buffet, bakery, and its main kitchen.

Station Casinos in response reiterated the company’s earlier statement that current workers will keep their jobs after the change in ownership is completed. Station Casinos also said the workers will keep their pay scales, seniority, and benefits.

Workers won’t have to reapply for their jobs, Station Casinos said, but the Culinary Workers Union is concerned about those employed by Sodexo.

Station Casinos, however, says it only is guaranteeing the jobs of those who work directly for the company and is not representing third-party job providers, like Sodexo.

Station Casinos’ parent company, Red Rock Resorts Incorporated, earlier this year agreed to pay $312.5 million to buy the Palms from TPG Capital and Leonard, Green & Partners.

The sale won’t be completed until state gaming regulators okay it, and a decision is expected later this year.

Meanwhile, the Culinary Workers Union and the Trump International Hotel in Las Vegas agreed to settle separate grievances with two workers to avoid a potentially costly trial.

The union accused the hotel of firing one worker and refusing to transfer another because they are pro-union.

The Culinary Workers Union has been trying to organize the Trump Hotel in Las Vegas since 2014.
