A new bingo hall recently opened at the Silver Star Casino at Pearl River Resort near Philadelphia, Mississippi, owned by the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians. Part of the casino resort’s million makeover, the bingo hall lets players compete against one another and offers progressive jackpots with other bingo facilities across the state. Chief Phyliss J. Anderson said, “This is something that the customers have asked for and we want to make sure we stay competitive with others. We listen to what our customers say and we’re hoping that bingo will get big here. The main thing is to make sure that we continue with the progress that we’ve made. One way of doing that is bringing new events here to attract more customers.”
The renovation also included the reopening of the tribe’s Golden Moon Casino in February with a new gaming floor offering more than 1,000 slots, 25 gaming tables and 14 poker tables, plus a restaurant and bar with a video wall and the makeover of the resort’s 1,100 guest rooms.
Meanwhile Chief Anderson said the tribe is seeking a replacement for Holly Gagnon who resigned in September as chief executive officer of Pearl River Resort. Former Vice President of Casino Operations William Johnson was appointed interim chief executive officer.
“We are looking for a CEO, but we are very comfortable with the interim right now. We are doing great even with the departure of our previous CEO. It’s very important that the individual that we hire is very progressive, very qualified and knows the business. We want that person to make sure they are doing what is in the best interest of the tribe because that’s what it is all about,” Anderson said.
