Peru to Approve Online Gambling

The Peruvian Gaming Control Board is preparing draft legislation for online casinos according to the head of the country’s Gaming Control Board. The legislation would tax online gambling sites at 15 to 20 percent, according to local reports.

Peru may soon go forward with new legislation to allow for online gambling in the country according to Manuel San Román Benavente, director general of the Peruvian Gaming Control Board.

According to Peruvian media, the bill legalizing online casinos would include a tax of 15 to 20 percent on online casinos. Land-based casinos in the country pay a 12 percent tax.

Peru also has a strong reputation for regulating land-based casinos and is expected to have a similar system in place for online gambling.

In the last 10 years the country actively fought illegal casinos in the country and now regulates nearly every gambling house in Peru. There are some 700 slots parlors and 22 full casinos operating in Peru today.
