PokerStars Granted Danish Sports Betting License

PokerStars has received a one-year sports betting license from Danish online gaming regulator Spillemynddigheden. The license is a preliminary for a possible five-year license. PokerStars plans to go live with sports betting in Denmark in 2016. Denmark also signed an agreement with European Economic area gaming regulators to share common practices.

PokerStars has been granted a one-year sports betting license by Danish online gaming regulator Spillemynddigheden.

The license is a preliminary to a potential five-year license, if PokerStars operation meet Danish regulations.

Eric Hollreiser, Vice President of Corporate Communications for Amaya said the company is excited to be working in a secure and competitive marketplace in a press release.

The move follows PokerStars efforts to begin offering sports betting in the Irish market.

In another matter, the Danish Gambling Authority has also signed a cooperation agreement with other gaming regulators of European Economic Area states including the Dutch Kansspelautoriteit.

The purpose of the agreement is to share common practices on policy regarding gambling regulation, money laundering, match fixing, problem gamblers, and the financing of terrorist activities, the authority announced.
