Polish Bookies Look for Tax Cut

The Polish Association of Employers and Employees of Bookmakers has appealed to the government for tax cuts to help it remain solvent during the Covid-19 pandemic.

According to iGamingBusiness.com, the industry association, representing 5,000 betting-shop workers, said bets have dropped by around 60 percent due to the cancellation of sports around the world. Retail bookmakers in Poland were compelled to close on March 14.

To avoid job losses and protect the state’s tax revenue, the association urged the Polish government to reducing gambling tax rates from 12 percent to 10 percent of turnover at least until August this year.

In addition, the association asked the government to delay the deadline for paying these taxes to September. Under normal circumstances, the taxes are paid monthly.

In January, legal association Graj Legalnie reported that regulated bookmakers in Poland generated combined turnover of US$1.76 billion in 2019, up 28.8 percent over 2018.
