The American Gaming Association said 20.1 million people in the U.S. expected to wager on the Olympic Games. The poll was conducted by Morning Consult July 9-12, with 2,200 adults, according to Sports Handle.
Of the 20 million bettors, the AGA found that 47 percent will bet with friends not through sportsbooks. The survey Indicated 43 percent will wager online but makes no distinction whether it includes offshore betting.
The survey also found 16 percent will visit a retail sportsbook to bet.
“Demonstrating Americans’ strong desire for legal betting options,” the AGA said in the presser, “10 percent of Americans who do not plan to place a bet on this summer’s games said they would be more likely to wager if it was legal to place an Olympic bet in their state.”
