Report: Isle of Man Must Protect Online Gambling Industry

According to a recent report, the online gaming industry remains a significant economic player on the Isle of Man, but steps must be taken to protect the island’s status as a home for the industry.

A report from Manx eGaming Association noted that the online gambling industry remains a key contributor to the Isle of Man economy, employing 900 people with an average salary of more than £50,000.

But it also warns that the island’s industry has matured and growth has slowed. Still, the association expects a five to eight percent growth in the industry for 2015.

There are currently 52 gaming license holders on the island, but several operations closed in 2014.

‘Overall, there was no net increase in license numbers from 2013-2014 and it is anticipated that, taking into account predicted new and surrendered licenses, the total number will remain static in 2015,’ the report advised.

But the group also warned against complacency as the European online gaming markets is changing and seeing increased regulation.

“It is heartening to note there continues to be widespread agreement and cooperation between the public and private sectors; this close relationship is envied by our competitors and is one reason why the island continues to respond quickly to the changing needs of the world’s business community,” the report said.
