Report Outlines Growth Areas for U.S. Online Gambling

A report from PlayUSA has identified seven potential growth areas for online gambling in the U.S. including online lottery sales, skill gaming such as eSports and traditional sports betting. The report notes, however, that changing gambling policy in U.S. states can be a long and difficult process.

Betting on eSports and regular sports betting lead a list of seven likely growth areas for online gambling in the U.S. according to a recent report from website PlayUSA.

The report outlines seven types of online gambling that could see growth in the U.S. market. They are: online gambling, online lottery, daily fantasy sports, social casino games, online skill gambling, online horse betting and sports betting.

In the U.S., 44 states already allow at least one of the seven types of online gambling and 26 states are looking to legalize more types of online gambling, the report notes. However, the report also notes that expanding online gambling in the U.S. has been controversial.

“Gambling is a highly dynamic issue in the United States, a universe populated by a long list of stakeholders and a dense web of agendas and alliances.” The report said. “Achieving progress on any—let alone all—is a tall task given the diverse array of opinions from operators, lawmakers, and other economic interests.”

The report pointed to eSports and sports betting as having the largest potential for growth in the country.

“Sports betting represents one of the last great frontiers of regulated gambling in the United States,” the report said. “Effectively, a national expansion of regulated sports betting would immediately reshape the landscape for commercial gambling.”
